Gardini Notes, our Campolungo in the top 15 Soave

Luca Gardini, awarded as the best sommelier in the world, made his personal charts on the 15 best Soave.

And we are proud to announce that our Soave Classico Campolungo is part of this charts :-)

The basics of Soave wine are summarized in this special issue of Gardini Noted dedicated to Soave.

    SOAVE, BEHIND THE NAME

Soave wine gets its name from the city it was born in, revealing its suavity and in taste. An elegant and well balanced wine with a good sapidity, a characteristic given from the volcanic soil on which our vines grow.

    ABOUT GRAPES

Usually, Soave in its most traditional version (a light, fresh and easy drinking wine) is a blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes.

    NOT ONLY GARGANEGA

In addition to the most typical version of Soave, many more are the ways of producing it.

According to the law, Soave wine must be made with miminum 70% of Garganega. So we can find Soave made of pure Garganega (like our Campolungo), or Garganega blended with Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco e Trebbiano di Soave grapes. It is also possible to vinificate Soave using dried or lightly dried grapes (such as our Le Brume), that goes through wood refinement. Last but not least, you could find Soave Doc in a sparkling version.

    WHAT THE LAW SAYS

In order to obtain the SOAVE DOC or SOAVE CLASSICO DOC certification, it is necessary to follow these rules: as said, Soave Doc must be made of Garganega grape for at least 70%, and also it can enter the market not before the December 1st of the vintage year (for the Soave Doc)or February 1st (for Soave Classico Doc).
In order to obtain the denomination of Soave Classico Doc, it must be produced in the Classico area that is defined by the law.
Also, the minimun of alcool volume is 11% for the Soave Classico Doc, while it reduces to 10,5% for the Soave Doc.

Concerning the Soave Superiore Docg, besides the minimun of 70% of Garganega grapes, it is allowed a 30% of Trebbiano di Soave and Chardonnay, and up to a 5% of indigenous (not aromatics) white grapes.

Are you now ready to toast with a good glass of Soave? :-)
