Did you know that St. Patrick's Day...

The whole world is painting up in green today!

But do you know what is this feast about? And why its symbol is the clover? Find out more in our article!

    Who was Saint Patrick?

His real name was Maewyin Succat, born in Scotland.
He was kidnapped by pirates when he was 16 yrs and sold as slave to the sovereign of what today is Northern Ireland. After 6 years he gets to escape from slavery and goes back to the Christian Church: first as deacon then as bishop, he is the one who took the Catholic religion to Ireland. He died in 461, on March 17th.

Known as Saint Patrick's Day, but also St. Paddy's Day, in Ireland it is a national festivity.
But they celebrate it in Canada, USA, UK, Australia and New Zeland.

    The clover

The legend says that the clover, the symbol of Ireland and Saint Patrick, represents the mistery of the Trinity. Thanks to a clover, Saint Patrick taught the Irish people the concept of the christian Trinity, just like a clover with the three leaves connected by a single stem.

Another legend tells us about the St. Patrick's spring, a cave without bottom from where they could see Hell and and Purgatory. Located on the Lough Derg island, it has a well known church.

Also, Saint Patrick creatd the celtic cross, that combines the cross (christian symbol) and the celtic symbol of the sun.

    Cheers everyone!
